Why there is a deposit
Your meals arrive in a reusable steel tiffin box rather than in disposable packaging. The box stays with you between deliveries and is swapped at the next one. The deposit covers the box itself.
The deposit is not a fee and it is not revenue to us. It is money we hold on your behalf, tracked separately from everything you pay for food, and it comes back to you when the box does.
How much, and when it is charged
- The current deposit amount is shown as its own line at checkout, next to the plan fee, before you pay. It is also stated on the plans page.
- It is charged once per customer. If you subscribe again later and you still hold a box, you are not charged a second deposit — the checkout page will say so.
- No deposit is charged on a trial meal.
- It is never bundled into the plan price, and the plan price is never quoted to you with the deposit hidden inside it.
How boxes are tracked
- Every box is individually numbered.
- Issuing a box to you is recorded, with the box number and the date.
- Returning it is recorded, with the date, its condition, and the member of our team who took it back.
This exists so that a question about your deposit has a factual answer rather than an argument: we can tell you which box you have and when you got it.
Looking after the box
Normal daily use, washing and ordinary wear are expected and are not charged for. Please:
- have the box ready for collection at your next delivery;
- rinse it rather than returning it with food left in it;
- keep the lid and any inner containers together with it;
- tell us if a box is damaged, so we can replace it instead of you eating out of a leaking box.
Getting your deposit back
- Return the box at a delivery, or arrange a collection with us.
- Request the refund from Deposit in your account, or call 7247603302.
- We check the box in, confirm the amount with you, and process the refund to the payment method you originally paid from.
- You can request your deposit back whether or not you are still subscribed. It is not tied to the subscription.
- Refunding your deposit does not refund the plan fee you paid in the same transaction. The two amounts are tracked separately, and the plan fee follows the Cancellation and Refund Policy.
- A refund is only recorded as complete once we hold evidence that the money has gone out — a payment provider refund reference, or a bank transfer reference recorded by a named member of our team.
A lost or damaged box
If a box is lost, or damaged beyond normal use, we may deduct from the deposit to replace it.
- Any deduction has to be recorded with a reason we can give you, and we will tell you the reason and the amount before we process the refund. Our system will not accept a deduction without one.
- We have not fixed a standard deduction amount in advance. It is assessed against what it actually costs to replace the box, and you are told the figure before it is applied.
- If you disagree with a deduction, say so and ask for it to be escalated. We would rather review it than keep money you think we should not have.
What the deposit is not
- It is not a payment for food, and it buys you no meals.
- It does not earn interest.
- It cannot be used to pay for a subscription, and it is not converted into meal credits.
- It is not transferable to another customer.
